Estranged UPA partners garnering confidence on Indo-U.S. nuc

With the date of the scheduled meeting of the UPA-Left coordination committee on June 25 drawing near Congress seems to be adamant to break the impasse on Indo-U.S. nuclear deal and make it a success. It is true that, by now, the Left has served a notice on the government stating that any endeavor towards the implementation of the contentious deal may bring the downfall of the government and for that the Left bloc will not be responsible in anyway.

However, it is becoming clear that Congress is steadfast to go on with the deal since to it the extensive population of the nation, especially the resurgent middle class in the urban sector, is advocating the completion of the deal. This conviction was found when within 24 hours of the latest stalemate when the ruling Congress party brought its three prominent allies in the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) in confidence. In the meantime though the External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee met Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Sitaram Yechury over the issue but it failed to deliver any such prolific solvent, as usual.

Apart from taking both of Lalu Prasad Yadav and Ram Vilas Paswan, leaders of key constituent parties within grip, to the inner sources, it was making full-scale attempt to garner the advocacy of DMK leader M. Karunanidhi. On the other hand the support of Nationalist Congress Party president Sharad Pawar of the very deal had perplexed the entire development reducing the Left brigade into a hopeless minority.

Nevertheless, the Left was not taking down the development and was also communicating with the other partners to throttle the governmental decision tooth and nail.

The subject by now has gone out of the frying pan into the fire. Only the future can be the best spokesperson.
